Our tea bowls come from a two-person studio an hour south of Portland, where the clay is dug nearby and every bowl is thrown by hand.
Why no two are the same
The glaze is poured, not sprayed, so it pools and drips differently on every bowl. Where it runs thick it turns deep blue; where it thins, the red clay shows through.
Made slowly
Each bowl is thrown, trimmed, dried for a week, fired twice and checked by hand. A good week makes about forty.
When you hold one, you are holding about two weeks of someone's work. We think that is worth slowing down for.
