Made slowly, on purpose
Hearth & Hollow began with one candle poured on a kitchen stove in Portland, Oregon, on a rainy November evening. We wanted the house to smell like the woods we had walked in that afternoon. Friends asked for one, then their friends did.
Today we pour every candle by hand in a small studio, a few dozen at a time, and let each batch cure for two weeks before it leaves. Alongside them we sell pieces from a handful of makers we know by name: a potter in the Willamette Valley, a weaver who works in linen, a woodworker who only uses fallen olive and oak.
What we believe
Fewer, better things. Everything here is meant to be used every day and kept for years, not replaced next season.
Natural materials. Soy wax and cotton wicks, stoneware and porcelain, linen and wool, oak and seagrass. Nothing that pretends to be something else.
Packaging you can recycle. Paper tape, recycled card and shredded paper instead of plastic.
