A styled shelf should look like it happened naturally. A few simple rules get you most of the way there.
Group in threes
Three objects of different heights, like a tall vase, a small bowl and a candle, look balanced. Pairs look formal; single objects look lost.
Leave a third empty
Empty space is what makes the rest look chosen. If a shelf feels busy, take one thing away before adding anything.
Mix materials
Glass catches the light, clay adds weight, wood adds warmth. One of each on a shelf already feels designed.
