Good linen is meant to be used and washed often. Every wash softens the fibres, and the gentle creases are part of its charm.
Warm, not hot
Wash at 40 degrees (warm) with a mild detergent and no bleach. Hot washes and strong detergents wear the fibres out faster.
Skip the fabric softener
Softener coats the fibres and makes linen less absorbent. Linen softens on its own; give it a few washes.
Dry low, or on the line
Tumble dry on low and take it out while still slightly damp, or hang it outside. Shake it out and smooth it with your hands: there is no need to iron.
